Hennessey Hammocks

Fifty Sense Seal of Approval There are many companies now that have produced hammocks for sleeping systems instead of tents. For those of us who do not normally sleep on their backs, we doubted we would find one that would be comfortable. Hennessy Hammocks have a size and weight for every purpose, a complete line of specialty hammocks, including jungle hammocks, winter hammocks, and hammock accessories.

All Hennessy Hammocks include attached mosquito netting, detachable rain fly, support ropes, tree huggers to protect the bark of trees, and stuff sack with set up Instructions on back.

The Hennessy Hammock has a patented rectangular shape on the floor to allow comfortable side sleeping. Still doubting the comfort, we set the hammock up. We went with the hammock that will hold someone up to 250 pounds since one of our testers weighs 230. We also got the thermo padding.

For those of us who are not very coordinated, we really appreciated being able to get in from the bottom and sitting down first. The self closer added to the ease in getting situated.

We tried the hammock in many conditions, from sun to pounding rain and slept like babies. We woke up refreshed with our backs feeling great, realizing that our whole body was supported in each sleeping position. We found it very enjoyable to sit and read without having the mosquitoes biting.

Although we can’t beat the record for quick set up by the scouts, the hammock was easy to set for one person and the directions are printed on the bag so they can’t be lost- how clever! In meeting with Tom Hennessy, we see a commitment to continually improve his system.

Deep Jungle Asym Zip

This company is determined to stay the best tent-hammock company out there. We tested the new Deep Jungle Asymmetrical Zip hammock. We call this a sleeping system, or a supershelter. You can use it as a tent, a chair or hammock. This new hammock has a side zipper, which is easier to get into than the bottom. This is their first double bottom hammock, which allows you to tuck the radiant reflective bubble pad between you and the bottom. This pad is much more durable. It states that anyone under 6' would be comfortable, our tester who was 6'3" slept like a baby. It will also handle up to 250 lbs.

Although it only weighs 2lbs. 8oz, it has all the extras for a great night's sleep. The new 30D catenary cut sylnylon rainfly reduces wrinkles, it is bugproof, has an extra large mesh pocket and "tree hugger" webbing straps to protect the tender bark on the trees. Their website is excellent for extra tips on making it into a chair, or more useful ways to stay warm and dry.
