Review: Bollé Goggles and Sunglasses

Fifty Sense Seal of Approval

Bollé has the reputation of delivering the highest quality sunglasses and goggles for performance and protection. The Bollé story began in the small town of Oyonnax, France in 1888. There Seraphim Bollé started his company by first manufacturing combs and hair ornaments for the boxwood and horn indigenous to the region. After WWII, Bollé led the way in molding nylon to the highest standards in the world. Safety glasses and goggles were added to the Bollé line in 1950 and in 1956 Georges Bollé created the famous nylon 'cat-eye' sunglass.

In 1960, ski goggles were first marketed by Bollé. Leading the industry in product innovations, the Bollé family took the business from a small cottage industry to one of the world's most prominent manufacturers of premium eyewear. Now, over 100 years later, Bollé products are distributed and worn all over the world. Bollé has developed particular strength in the sports specialty markets of snow sports, golf, tennis, and marine, as well as eyewear that meets everyday needs and styles. All Bollé lenses block harmful UVA/UVB rays up to 400 nanometers.

Vortex Sunglasses

Light, fast, and comfortable, these are just three reasons the Bollé Vortex is Outside Magazine's 2011 Gear of the Year winning sunglass. We were very impressed at the clarity of the lens and comfort of these sunglasses. They are more than just top-notch lenses. Bollé frames boast the latest technological advances in precision, comfort and style – from adjustable nose pads and temple tips to lightweight precision molding and more. Add the nice look and you have a great sport sunglass.

Shimmer Goggles

It is nice to see a company that makes goggles to fit all sizes of heads. Our female reviewer loved these small-to-medium fit goggles that do more than look slick on the slopes. They’re packed with technology to keep you fog free, fit perfectly with your helmet and enhance your vision all day long. The lens stayed clear, no fogging up, was extremely comfortable, looked great. With a rose colored lens, even though it says it should be used for partly cloudy conditions, it was great for sunny days.

Nova Goggles

This goggle gives you clear vision all day long. Its medium-to-large fit slides on comfortably over your helmet and is so comfortable that you’ll wear it from your first lift ride to your last run. It has a modulator lens that lightens and darkens with the weather conditions, so you can have one goggle for all occasions. We love that this goggle comes in 16 colors so you can have a goggle to match your outfit or goggle.

It is designed to reduce fogging and optimize the flow of air over the inside of the lens. These venting ports control airflow, while preventing clogging from snow and ice. The medium density foam backed up a soft micro-fleece face layer adds comfort. The Bollé unique double lens design creates a thermal barrier, while providing exceptional optics and a superior seal. Applied to their polycarbonate lenses, P80 Plus/Carbo Glas is the Bollé® proprietary coating that provides maximum protection against unwanted lens fogging and most scratching.
